What Should I Say?
It is always best to write your own letter, but here is a sample letter as well:
Example 1
Dear County Commissioner,
I am writing to ask you to please support funding for full-time nurses in our Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Having a full-time school nurse is basic to supporting the health, safety and general welfare of our children while at school.
Please help us protect our children and support the educators that care for them by providing at least 1 full-time nurse in every school. School Nurses are best able to prevent, assess and care for children's medical well-being due to accidents and injuries obtained while at school. School Nurses provide necessary guidance to non-medically trained school staff that are now, more than ever, teaching children with often severe, chronic and life-threatening medical conditions. School Nurses act as a medical liaison between parents and school staff to best provide a medically safe school environment.
Too often we wait to react to events rather than to prevent them. Please, do not wait for a tragedy to occur in Charlotte-Mecklenburg County and vote to provide full-time school nurses in our schools.
Thank You for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing back from you.
Best Regards,

Example 2
Dear County Commissioner,
I am writing to ask for your support to provide full-time nurses in our Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Accidents, injuries and the effects of chronic health conditions occur on a daily basis in our schools. Our children need your support.
Please help us protect our children. Medical emergencies happen much more often than incidents of school
violence. While we have found funding to make our schools more secure, we still have not found ways to make our children’s health a priority. Full time school nurses should be part of every school’s safety plan.
Too often we wait to react to events instead of preventing them. Please do not wait for a tragedy to occur in our schools before we address this important need.
Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing back from you.
